11.08.2009 Newsletter

There is a quarterly newsletter for members with articles by members themselves, tips and hints, a Diary of meetings, Membership List and lists of items 'For Sale' and 'Wanted'. This has become an important means of keeping in touch for those members unable to get out to meetings or who are back at work but still want to remain in touch with the Club. Articles from previous newsletters are also available for members.

It is your newsletter. It needs your contributions to make it relevant!

Welcome to the Highgate & Crouch End Twins Club

Despite the name there's no need to come from any particular area; the Club has its name from the places we were meeting at the time of its affiliation to Tamba.

We have members from fairly far afield, from Southgate to Islington. The Club exists as a support and source of information for members, who are all either expecting or are already parents of twins and triplets. We have no specialist knowledge other than our own experience.

Short History of the Club

The Club started in February 1999 when we formally affiliated to Tamba, but several months before that, several women with twins in Highgate, Crouch End and Muswell Hill gathered for mutual support as one by one we gave birth to our twins and recognized the benefits of a support network.

We had met at yoga classes and NCT classes, where teachers noticed an increase in numbers of multiples mums, and thoughtfully put us in touch with each other.

There was no other local provision specifically for women and their partners as they anticipated the birth and subsequent raising of more than one baby at once.

Even at the hospitals the information was seldom relevant. Soon it dawned on us that we were now the best authorities on our experience and that, just as we had benefited so much from that information and support, it should be available to a wider group.

The Club has grown in a short time to over 80 families, with several sets of triplets.
